THERMIT became one of the sponsors of the Tatar-Bashkir summer festival Sabantuy which took place on 26th June 2011 on Tatyshev island.
By tradition Sabantuy in Krasnoyarsk was opened by traditional dances and carrying of the two flags – russian and tatar. In the capital of the Krasnoyarsk region Sabantuy has already been held for the 15th time, as there are over 50 thousand Tatars in the area. Sabantuy is one of the oldest tatar festivals. The festival is held to celebrate the crops. In former times people appeased the spirits that day to gather a good crop.
At the Sabantuy festival guests took part in joky and serious competitions. They carried eggs in spoons racing each other and competed in armwrestling. Little boys participated in a traditional wrestling “Kuresh” competition. The main dish of the festival is the Tatar plov (pilaf), and many people came to the festival to try the national cuisine. People were celebrating all day long.
